Sinner Saint Servant

by Troy White, with Clare Bruce

A story of service and sacrifice — of faith in action. Troy White's memoir follows a life lived on the edges: from the NSW Police Force and the courtroom, to the pulpit, to the Middle East as an ADF chaplain. Carried through some of the darkest moments a person can face, and saved by grace.

Clare Bruce drew out this remarkable story with the skill and sensitivity it deserved, shaping a memoir that is raw, real, funny and ultimately deeply hopeful.

About the Book

This compelling memoir is the true story of a high-voltage, high-calibre former Australian Air Force padre, Troy White. With raw honesty and a knack for laugh-out-loud storytelling, Troy tells of his life and career in the NSW police force, in police prosecution, in Christian church ministry, and as a chaplain in the Defence Force. He shares courageously about the secret struggle with alcoholism and mental health challenges that brought him crashing down to earth, almost at the cost of his life. This is a weighty, rivetting and uplifting story of struggle, addiction, recovery and faith — with an uncommonly high frequency of hilarious, "I can't believe this happened" adventures along the way.

About the Authors

Troy White was in the NSW Police Force from the mid-90s to early 2000s; a pastor from 2006 to 2013; and an ADF chaplain from 2013 to 2022 including Middle East deployment. He now resides in sunny Queensland where the beach is never far away.

Clare Bruce is a writer, editor, digital creator and former journalist. As well as crafting books she is studying psychology and working at UNE in Armidale. This book is her debut work as a ghostwriter; she has also contributed to several other memoirs.
